London Trip #11
London Trip #11, Nov. 2011 (5 photos)
This was our first major off-season trip together since both retiring from teaching elementary school. Our main plans were to walk some of the many long distance paths available to the average UK citizen, as well as to visit some of the many fine pubs along the way. Although the weather turned out perfect for walking, we had a back-up plan involving museums and concerts had it been stormy. Even so we spent one full day in London and another in Oxford. The rest of the time was spent walking. Our total for the week was very close to fifty miles, give or take a mile, so we were pleased with the results.
This nifty little structure (built 1954) was our home station, and easily got us everywhere we needed. It was on the
Central Line of the London Tube, as well as Chiltern Trains' mainline to London Marylebone and Birmingham. The
building in the background with the green roof was our hotel. Rather convenient, even though we were deep
in suburban Zone 5!
The very first photo of the journey was this one, inside The Fox, an award-winning pub in Hanwell.

The canal featured prominently in several of our walks this week.
This Fullers Pub greeted us at the end of our 7-mile segment.
